Voting for the elections in Ayia Napa has opened

3.334 citizens of Ayia Napa, come to the polls today to elect the next mayor.

Christos Zannetos and Emilia Evangelou-Xydia are claiming the mayoral seat in the by-elections after the appointment of Giannis Karousou as Minister of Transport, Communications and Works on December 1st.

The polls opened at 7 in the morning and will remain open until 6 in the afternoon, with a break from 12 to 1 at noon.

According to the Famagusta Prefect and Election Commissioner George Chrysafini, the result is expected to be announced just one hour after the polls close.

3334 voters are eligible to participate in the by-elections, of which 2687 are Cypriots and 647 are Community voters, who will be distributed in 4 polling stations, with the turnout expected to be very high, as happened in previous election procedures for the local government in Ayia Napa.

It is recalled, however, that both candidates came down as independents with Christos Zannetos receiving support from the Democratic Alarm, the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Patriotic Movement and the Party for Animals and Emilia Evangelos Xydias, receiving the support of the All and the Solidarity Movement.

Regarding the procedure to be followed by the voters in order to exercise their right to vote, they should have with them their ballot paper or their identity card or the document they used for their registration, in order for Community voters. For their convenience, Community voters are encouraged to bring with them the Union Citizen Registration Certificate (MEU1) or the Alien Registration Certificate.

10:30: By-election of Ayia Napa Mayor - The candidate Christos Zannettou will vote at the Primary School (Ayia Napa)

11:30: By-election of Ayia Napa Mayor - The candidate Emilia Evangelou - Xydia will vote at the Primary School (Ayia Napa)
