The most cosmopolitan tourist resort of Cyprus, Ayia Napa, woke up from hibernation and is fighting to win the first place for another season in the tourist events with over 30 thousand beds and 170 hotel units, for all budgets.

Five new four- and five-star hotels are under construction, while the five-star Nissi Blu Hotel, which has 20 beds and is a stone's throw from the famous Nissi Beach, opened its gates on April 600.

The metropolis of tourism, which overnight was turned from a fishing village into a tourist resort, enters with claims and the new season is stated to StockWatch by the mayor Giannis Karousos, claiming that "although there is uncertainty for the new season, Ayia Napa is the last Cyprus resort that will face a problem in tourist arrivals "to add that" for another summer it will be overcrowded ".

Defending the tourist product of the region, Mr. Karousos said that "the moves we made to upgrade our product brought the corresponding results. The Cypriots and the young couples returned back to Ayia Napa, at Easter we had over 10 thousand Cypriot visitors ".

He noted that "last week 300 Russian travel agents visited the resort, while next week another 200 from different countries will visit it because Ayia Napa is a world-famous tourist brand name and travel agents want to promote the upgrade of the tourist product abroad. of ".

He also stressed that there is huge investment interest in the area for both new hotel units and high-rise buildings.

Mr. Karousos clarified, however, that the municipal council is waiting for the completion of the local plan. within the autumn, which will determine the development plan of the municipality in order to decide in which area it will allow the construction of high-rise buildings.

"One idea is to give permits to the area where the large marina project is underway, which already includes two 26-storey towers each," he said.

This is said to be the area of ​​Makronisos on the border with Agia Thekla Sotiras, which has not yet been developed.

Regarding the winter months when the resort is literally dormant as all the hotels are closed for about four months, he said that "this winter, ten hotel units have made either upgrades, extensions or renovations".

The mayor of Ayia Napa also said that "the municipality is promoting a wide range of new projects to further upgrade the quality of life of local and foreign visitors."

Among them are the conversion of the Medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa into a Museum, the construction of an outdoor state-of-the-art amphitheater and cultural center, the construction of a physical and multi-theme park, further upgrading of the seafront and the road network.
