The effects of the pollution of the coasts and the sea by the plastic waste were analyzed in an event - presentation on "Fighting plastic pollution in the Mediterranean" that took place on Thursday, September 13 at the Municipal Museum of Ayia Napa "Sea", the President of the Cyprus Association A Mr. Filippos Drousiotis.
In his presentation, Mr. Drousiotis pointed out the excessive use of plastics in the tourism industry such as straws, glasses, bottles, bags and the urgent need to reduce plastic waste, which reduction will have beyond the protection of the environment and economic benefits. for the business world.
Welcoming the event on behalf of the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos, the Municipal Councilor Mr. Antonis Christou referred to the actions and policies that the Municipality will launch in the near future regarding the reduction of plastic packaging and mainly disposable plastics by local companies.
The event was jointly organized by the Cyprus Association of Sustainable Tourism and the Municipality of Ayia Napa within the Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) program with the aim of informing and raising public awareness and was attended mainly by representatives of hotel units.
After the end of the event, the attendees headed to the beach "Pantachou" where they cleaned it.
