The Annual National Memorial Service of the heroically deceased Giannaki Pappouli and Christakis Christou Pieris was held today, Sunday, August 5, at the Holy Temple of Panagia Ayia Napa.
The Memorial Service was presided over by the Most Venerable Archimandrite Ieronymos Pyliotis and the Commemorative Speech was delivered by the Governor of EKA, Mr. Giannakis Gabriel.
In his memorial speech, Mr. Gabriel, after praising the sacrifice of the two heroes, stressed that only by recognizing the sacrifices and ideals for which the young men of Cyprus fought, can this place hope for better days.
"We respectfully close the offspring of the greatness of the sacrifice of Giannakis Pappoullis and Christakis Christou, we keep their memory alive because only in this way will we build a solid foundation for the future of our country."
"We will continue to work tirelessly until the day of justice."
This was followed by the laying of wreaths at the Heroes' Monument, the touch of the flame by the athletes of the "Periklis Dimitriou" Association and an artistic program.
