Held from 20 - 25 April 2019, the largest football academy event in the eastern Mediterranean, the 19th Ayia Napa Tournament, known as the Ayia Napa Soccer Festival.
A written statement said that this year's Ayia Napa Soccer Festival "surpassed all previous ones in terms of participation, as more than 5.500 children, aged 6 to 16, took part, while 22 teams arrived from abroad, a record number. During the five days of the games, about 20 thousand spectators were present at the 16 stadiums with natural turf available to the Municipality of Ayia Napa ".
In 2018, the participants were categorized for the first time with the introduction of the Lions category, which allowed children aged 8-12 to participate in a parallel three-day tournament that ended on Holy Monday.
It adds that "the teams that will participate in the Ayia Napa Soccer Festival 2019, will be divided into eleven different age categories, for children born from 2003 to 2013. At the same time there will be a Lions category, for children born from 2007 to in 2011".
For another year, there will be women's categories, namely Category A, which is an open category for women, and Category B, which concerns girls under the age of 16, ie those born from 2003 onwards.
According to Christos Konstantinou, head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, "we have already started work, mainly in the field of attracting teams from abroad, since every year we want to increase the number of foreigners participating in the event. In addition, we seek to improve the organization, evaluating the feedback from the teams that participated this year ".
The Ayia Napa Soccer Festival is organized by the Soccer World Cyprus Association which is under the auspices of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the KOP, with a large sponsor the CTO, institutional supporter the COM and television partner Cytavision.
