Around the middle of 2025, the residents of Deryneia and the wider province of Famagusta will have the opportunity to enjoy the new People's Market of the Municipality of Deryneia.
The Municipality of Deryneia signed an agreement with the company Nikos and Panagiotis Dimitriou Ltd for the creation-redevelopment of the People's Market.
Construction work will start on April 24, 2024, barring unforeseen circumstances and will last 12 months, so the new People's Market will be ready around mid-2025.
The project with a total cost of approximately €1,5 million is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, speaking to Famagusta.News, said that the new market will offer direct promotion of local products from producers to consumers, support for agriculture - livestock breeding and the primary sector, fresh and quality fruits and vegetables and will attract a large number of local and foreign visitors. According to the Mayor, the public market space has the potential to be used for other activities of the Municipality.
In the first phase, the project includes a square, a cafe, sanitary and parking areas and an outdoor market area with a metal canopy and water fountains.
