The Mayor Andros Karagiannis requests the intervention of the President of the Republic in order to launch projects in Deryneia, in his letters.
As Mr. Karagiannis stated in KYPE, "one of the projects that will lead to a better living environment for the citizens of Deryneia, is the renovation and expansion of the Municipal Popular Market that operates every Saturday since June 2013. The Market started with six producers, while today there are about 50 producers from all over Cyprus ".
According to the Mayor, a delegation of the Municipality had "meetings with the Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and Interior, to whom the specific issue was raised. A Project Note (PCN) has also been submitted to the Directorate-General for European Programs, Coordination and Development (DG EPSA), for its evaluation and inclusion in the Medium-Term Financial Framework 2020-2022, which is approved by summary procedures, as the cost is below the new limit for the requirement of a Project Note, ie 200 thousand euros including VAT ".
In his letter to President Anastasiadis, the Mayor of Deryneia noted that "what we are asking for is the granting of the initial amount of 200 thousand euros for the start of the first phase of the project, which concerns the construction of shelters. "Both producers and consumers have been asking for the construction of shelters for quite some time now as it will protect them from extreme weather phenomena".
Andros Karagiannis also stated that in another letter to the President of the Republic he reiterates "the request for the creation of a modern European-standard Culture Hall / Conference Center, which will house cultural events throughout the year. The aim is for the Hall to also host conferences in order to promote the hinterland and the free province of Famagusta in general. The specific request has been pending since 2009, the project is mature and has secured all the required permits, while the offers for its construction can be announced immediately ".
Asked about other projects underway in the Municipality of Deryneia, Mr. Karagiannis replied that "we have announced bids for the repair of Omonia and Kalithia streets, which were destroyed by the execution of the sewerage project, at a cost of about 500 thousand euros, an amount that will be paid from the funds of the Municipality. So far, the government has granted the Municipality a sum of 176 thousand euros, which was used for the repair of other roads ".
He added that "another urban project that is being launched is the road Deryneia - Sotira, however due to a delay observed in the issue of expropriations, the offers are expected to be announced in November."
Another important issue for the Municipality, he continued, is the creation of a "green point" in the administrative boundaries of Deryneia, with the aim of serving both citizens and citizens residing in the surrounding Municipalities and Communities. The relevant permanent request of the Municipality is treated positively by the Ministry of Agriculture, which sent its officials who saw up close the places where they are proposed by the Municipality to create the "green spot".
Answering a relevant question, Mr. Karagiannis said that "the Municipal Council of Deryneia decided in a recent meeting, that for the year 2020 discounts will be granted to all professional premises whose operation has been affected by the decrees issued by the Minister of Health according to the Infection Law. Specifically, discounts will be granted on the profession tax and at the cleaning fee of a percentage from 15% to 35% depending on the period of influence of the operation of each company ".
