In his intervention, the Mayor of Deryneia also mentioned that "women are proven to be more peaceful than men, especially when it comes to solving political problems and conflicts. Referring to the male-dominated society and the patriarchal system that prevails in several member countries of the European Union, Mr. Karagiannis noted the need for further involvement of women in political life and decision-making centers."

Concluding, Andros Karagiannis "referred to the recent vote by the European Parliament of the ratification and respect by the European Commission of the "Istanbul Convention on the prevention and combating of domestic violence and violence against women and called on the 6 member countries of the European Unions that did not ratify the Convention to do so immediately".
