The Turkish occupying forces systematically and methodically advance their positions within the dead zone. These developments take place in the context of a broader plan for advancement at sea and on land, and it is obvious that occupying Turkey is not affected by protests and demonstrations, which seem to be useless policy measures.

The aim is to impose new accomplishments.

In the last few days there have been two new moves:

  • First, in the area of Strovilia.
  • Secondly, in the area of Ledra Street.

Developments, therefore, are also taking place in the area of Strovilia. According to information, on September 25, the occupying army began work on the construction of a military outpost or possibly a gate outpost, within the area of Strovilia. The construction, made of concrete, takes place south of the settlement towards the British Bases. The Republic of Cyprus has already taken steps towards UNFICYP, which, from what is understood, had a meeting with the occupying army. The result; The construction works continue.

It is noted in this regard that this move is a continuation of the provocative expansionist actions of occupied Turkey in the area that took place in early February 2019. At that time, the occupying forces had placed barbed wire and fences on the road inside Strovilia, which is known to be adjacent to British Bases . Based on the data they tried to impose, the Turks proceeded to verify the identities of the inhabitants and asked the Greek Cypriots to issue a "driving license". Turkish soldiers in the area are informing residents of the δεδο new data, as they did last July.

It is recalled that the operations in Strovilia had started in 2000 and despite the references in the reports of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for UNFICYP, there was no difference. On the contrary, the Turks continue their expansionist moves.

In the area of Ledra Street, as "F" wrote a few days ago, a wooden shelter was constructed at the height of Kykkou Street, between the two checkpoints, the free areas and the occupied areas. On Ledras Street, the occupation regime began construction of the wooden shelter in early August and was completed in no time. On August 20, the well-known sign was placed, which reads "Welcome to the TRNC- Contributions were by the ministry of tourism and environment". The sign bears the signature of Dr. Unal Ustel, dated August 28, 2019.

Eyewitnesses report that armed soldiers of the Turkish occupation army and pseudo-police officers were coming and going during the construction of the shelter. To check the work!

The new development

The sign was removed on the morning of September 25 and relocated late in the afternoon of the same day. What mediated? There is no explanation from the United Nations, which has taken action, although it is clear that the fate of the label played out between internal political differences. The marches were made by the United Nations, as reported by the Force, to the office of the occupying leader, Mustafa Akinci, who apparently gave the order to remove the sign. It seems that as soon as the pseudo-government was informed, it gave orders to be repositioned. And it still remains there.

What is required for the Republic of Cyprus is the illegal construction of the shelter, which violates the status quo in the dead zone and the goal is to remove the illegality.

It is noted in this regard that last October, when discussions were held on UNFICYP, the Republic of Cyprus had said in all directions that in case of withdrawal of the Force, Turkey would move to occupy the so-called dead zone. The Republic of Cyprus proposes to its interlocutors and now the fact that at the moment they consider our country a stabilizing factor. This, in case of withdrawal of UNFICYP, will cease to exist. It seems that the occupation of the dead zone has begun in the presence of the Peacekeeping Force.

Reaction is sought

It is clear that the Turkish moves will continue until Nicosia does not react with countermeasures. And this can be done with moves that will have an impact on the occupying power and the occupying regime. It could, for example, suspend the operation of the passage on Ledras Street until the illegality is lifted. Otherwise the shelter will remain there, it will be considered an acquis and later it is not ruled out that a Turkish inspection will be carried out at this point.

The occupying army methodically and systematically advances, occupies the dead zone and imposes new accomplishments. And all this while in the diplomatic field, ways are being sought to repeat the talks.
