Famagusta: Public works worth 75 million euros (Table)

How many have been completed, how many are being promoted and which is stagnant?

Utility development projects totaling € 75.309.675 are included in the list of development projects that have been implemented or are being launched by the Government and are presented today by Famagusta.News. These are a total of eight utility development projects related to road network maintenance or improvements, waste management, irrigation and water supply network management, as well as artificial reef enrichment project in Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Three of the eight Utilities for the province of Famagusta have been implemented. This is Solid Municipal Waste Reduction Program of the beach hotels of the Province of Famagusta, of which Phase A has been completed. The cost of the project amounted to € 6,5 million and was the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

It was also implemented Rehabilitation project of Uncontrolled Waste Disposal Areas (HADA) in the province of Famagusta of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, worth € 6,4 million as well as the maintenance and improvements to road networks of the province of Famagusta for the years 2013-2018 of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, worth € 5.624.675.

Except from Achna Wastewater Treatment Plant, a project which remains stagnant, three total projects are under construction. This is project to improve the reliability of the drinking water supply system (“Kokkinokremmos” project) for Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Deryneia and Sotira to meet the water needs. The project was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in March 2016 and started in April 2017 with an expected completion date of December 2022 and a cost of 23 million euros. In December 2019, the maintenance and improvement works on road networks of the province of Famagusta are expected to be completed in 2019 by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, at a cost of € 1.085.000, while in December 2022 its work application of innovative technologies for recording and management of irrigation networks, a southern pipeline project, related to the rational management for saving resources and energy, in the province of Famagusta, announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in April 2016 and started in May of the same year at a cost of 1 million euros.

Also, its implementation was launched creation of two new artificial reefs and enrichment of five existing ones (Geroskipou, Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Larnaca, Limassol). The project is expected to start in January 2020 by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works under the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment with an implementation horizon in December 2021 and a cost of 1 million euros. It is noted that for the project, a tender was announced in September 2018 but no bids were submitted. The issue is being studied by the Department of Fisheries and relevant suggestions are expected.
