The Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta imposed on 8/4/24 a prison sentence of eight years, on a 34-year-old man, who was found guilty after a trial of a case of rape of a spouse by a wife and the offenses of assault and causing actual bodily harm, common assault, threat and malicious act .

The offenses were committed between the years 2017 – 2019 in a village of Famagusta District.

Information from the KYPE states that according to the complaint submitted to the Police, the 34-year-old is alleged to have had illicit intercourse with his ex-wife on three different occasions during the specific period of time, without her consent, which was given under the state of violence or fear of bodily harm.

The Criminal Court of Famagusta after examining the evidence and testimony collected by the Police and presented before it by the Prosecuting Authority, found the 34-year-old guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in prison starting from March 11, 2024, the day he was detained as defendant.

The case was investigated by the Special Family Violence Investigation Unit of the TAE Famagusta.
