The kidney patients of the Famagusta General Hospital are in despair. They complain of understaffing and the absence of a nephrologist, with the result that the dialysis is performed by the nursing staff.

Chronic and not new is the problem of understaffing of the General Hospital of Famagusta, both in the Nephrology and in the Cardiology Clinic.

The more than forty dialysis patients of the Hospital in Paralimni complain about the lack of medical staff, while according to their complaints, the short leave of the only Nephrologist left the unit without a competent doctor, and the nursing staff takes the responsibility of dialysis.

According to the kidney patient George Kkezos, the dialysis at the General Hospital of Famagusta is working normally but there is a problem with the doctors. The crowd has grown, he said, to forty people that a doctor is not enough.

The kidney patient George Kkezos said that the service from the doctors is very good while at the moment the Nephrologist is absent with a rest leave without a replacement, while he stressed that there is a need for manning with a permanent Nephrologist.

For his part, OKYPY states that the issue of staffing the Hospital with medical staff is expected to be covered soon by hiring an additional Nephrologist.

The Spokesperson of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou stated: "A Nephrologist is placed at the General Hospital of Famagusta, who is currently on leave for a few days and the public will be covered by the Larnaca General Hospital. The State Health Services Organization, recognizing the need to hire a second Nephrologist in Famagusta, has taken all the necessary actions, has announced a position of Nephrologist for the mentioned Hospital, and a CV has been submitted, which the Selection Committee will examine next Tuesday. very, very soon we will have a second Nephrologist to cover the needs of the General Hospital of Famagusta. ”

Regarding the staffing of the Cardiology Clinic, so far two cardiologists have been placed in the Hospital, while the staffing with an additional three doctors is expected by January.
