Liopetri: The fishing shelter is changing

The fishing shelter and the river Liopetrio are being remodeled, while the organization of a National Park with a strong environmental and educational character is also foreseen. The projects are expected to be done in two phases.

According to the Environmental Impact Assessment Study submitted to the Department of Environment, the construction of the environmental park is an opportunity to highlight the rural landscape of Cyprus and to promote the cultural heritage and its role in shaping the landscape of the island. In addition, there is the opportunity to highlight the interior of the island with the aim of changing the one-dimensional development model of seasonal tourism which is limited to the coastline of the island.

The projects that will be carried out in Phase A 'concern the protection and promotion of the natural environment of the river area, the smooth operation of the fishing shelter by creating an organized space with basic infrastructure projects and the creation of an important attraction for the visitor.

Also, 2 parking spaces will be created. One parking lot is located at the northern limit of the study area in relation to the motorway exit and the entrance kiosk and will serve the visitors of the environmental park and there will be 61 parking spaces and the second space (50 parking spaces) will be created. within walking distance of the fishing center to serve fishermen.

Finally, it is planned to widen the road access of approximately 900m to the fishing shelter so that the total traffic width is 9-10,50m (including road, sidewalk, bike path), sidewalk and bike path and the protection of the bike path. erosion, where required, using wire boxes and natural boulders.

The total capacity of the shelter in fishing boats will amount to 114.
