In his letter to the Minister of Interior, the Famagusta MP Dr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis requested that an issue be examined which seems to be very strong in the community of Liopetri, possibly in other communities as well. Specifically, as Mr. Hatzigiannis mentions, within the community of Liopetri, there are houses that are adjacent to Halite land or have an operation to build them on Chalit land (it does not concern illegal extensions). These homes can be up to 100 years old. As a result, in several cases, interventions have been made on the Halit land since the owners of the neighboring plots have owned this Halit land for many years, with the belief that it belongs to them.

At the same time, after information received from the Famagusta Land Registry, Mr. Hatzigiannis stated in his letter that this situation may have arisen before the British occupation, where for tax reasons, the residents declared to the then authorities the smallest possible area of land not to pay taxation. As a result, the intermediate is then characterized as chaotic. He also emphasizes that the problem arose due to the old methods of measurement and separation. With the technological development and especially with the satellite technology, most of the houses seem to be in other limits.

Closing his letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hatzigiannis stated that the request is to make the political decision that will enable the owners of these houses to symbolically purchase square meters of waste land at a symbolic value that will be determined for the purpose of solving the problem. in order to be issued a title deed in all cases where there are extensions within the specific pieces of paper. Finally, Mr. Hatzigiannis stressed that the wasteland is fragmented and without the possibility of using it by the state since it concerns individual square meters scattered throughout the community.
