LIOPETRI: A 71-year-old woman died in a domestic accident

A 71-year-old woman, Panagiota Savva, died tragically in a domestic accident at her home in Liopetri.

She fell from a metal ladder while trying to unload clothes from storage.

Panagiota Savva was located by her 29-year-old son at 5:20 yesterday afternoon, dead on the floor of her house in the Self-Housing Settlement of Liopetri. He notified the First Aid Department of Famagusta Hospital, whose officers notified the Police.

Members of the Xylofagos Police Station and the Famagusta Police Department went to the house of the deceased in Liopetri and blocked the scene for examinations. The victim was covered in blood on the living room floor, at the base of the stairs leading to the first floor and next to it was a metal staircase.

The body was inspected and according to the Police, a head injury was found which was caused by a fall and at first sight the possibility of criminal action was ruled out. The Medical Examiner Aggeliki Papetta was informed, who stated, according to the Police, that under the circumstances she does not need to do an autopsy at the scene.

According to the Police Spokesperson, the woman had tried to lower a bag of clothes from a storage space by climbing a metal ladder and lost her balance, as a result of which she fell and hit her head on the first step of the floor and then rolled towards down to the base of the ladder, ie at the point where it was found.

At the General Hospital of Famagusta, the doctors on duty confirmed the death of Panagiota Savva. The causes of death will be ascertained after the legal autopsy, which will be performed later today at the Larnaca General Hospital, by Medical Examiner Angeliki Papetta.

The case is being investigated by the Xylofagou Police Station.
