Artymata neo2 Eleni Artymata, Olympic Games Tokyo, Qualification

Eleni Artymata qualified for the fourth Olympic Games of her career on Sunday, August 25, 2019! Our track and field champion performed 51.34 in the 400m race at the IAAF rally in Madrid, thus reaching the Olympic limit of 51.35.

Thus, the 33-year-old Paralimnitissa became the first representative of athletics in Tokyo next summer and the 5th member in total of the Cypriot delegation to the upcoming Olympic Games in Japan. We remind you that the qualifiers for Tokyo have already secured the sailors in Laser Pavlos Kontidis and Marilena Makri and the shooters Andri Eleftheriou (director) and Andreas Makris (trap).

The Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOE) congratulates the athlete, its coach Antonis Giannoulakis, the GSE club and the KOEAS Federation for the new success of the athlete.

Artymata in the summer of 2020 in Japan will become the first Cypriot with four participations in the Olympic Games. In her three previous participations, she competed in the 200m.

Artymata's first Olympic appearance came in 2008 in Beijing, where she advanced to the quarterfinals, taking 30th place. In 2012 in London came her greatest success at the Olympics, qualifying for the semifinals and 16th place. In 2016 in Rio, Eleni did not manage to pass the first round, taking the 39th place. For two years now, Artymata has been competing in the 400 meters, having changed its course.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee, in addition to being the authority responsible for organizing the Olympic Mission, supports athletes on the road to Tokyo, including through its "Adopt an Athlete" sponsorship program and the Olympic Solidarity programs.
