The lack of an escape point, the narrow road, but also the large number of visitors that gather during the summer in the wooded area of Konnos beach in the National Forest Park of Cape Greco which is supervised by the Department of Forests, causes concern to the local authority for a possible outbreak of fire.
The Mayor of Paralimni stated on the subject that aThere is currently an access problem for first aid purposes, either from the Fire Department, or from hospitals, or from clinics in the area.
Theodoros Pyrillis rings the alarm bell to the Department of Forests to find solutions regarding access points and escape points to and from the beach.
As he says, "The Department of Forests believes that it may not be necessary in its effort to create as little wound as possible in the area where the other passage to the specific beach should be made. And I'm talking about environmental issues. But I am of the opinion that security and human life are above all and that measures must be taken immediately. "
For its part, the Forest Department recognizes the problem that will be created in a nightmarish scenario of causing a fire in the area.
According to statements by the Director of the Forest Department, Charalambos Exandrou, there is an issue of bathers' safety, it is an issue that has been discussed several times in the past, no decision has been made. There are two options, according to him, to improve the situation either by building someone, a second road, an escape route, or with a completely new solution to the problem with the construction of the parking lot further north.
According to information from Sigma, a meeting of the Committee for Management and Development of the Cape Greco National Forest Park is scheduled for next September, which is expected to reconsider the issue for a final decision.
