Work to be completed in Pernera in 48 hours (video)

The completion of the works that started on Pernera beach within 48 hours, was agreed yesterday by the District of Famagusta and the competent government departments with the Mayor of Paralimni.

In statements after a meeting held at Konnos beach in Paralimni, Famagusta District Governor George Chrysafinis said that "after the on-site inspection and inspection in the area of ​​Pernera, with the participation of all relevant departments, it has been decided that the work is very advanced , ie construction of the pipelines, to proceed and if possible within 48 hours to be completed ".

He added that "the competent Departments expressed strong reservations and objections because their views had not been taken in advance. Specifically, the Departments are of the opinion that the damage that has occurred is not easy to repair. However, we have also agreed with the Mayor of Paralimni to take all those actions that are required so that the situation returns to a degree that resembles what happened before ".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Chrysafinis explained that "environmental and coastal engineering studies had to precede and as the colleagues of the other departments report, it is not easy for them to return to the previous situation".

For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, described as a "positive development" the decision taken "to proceed with the projects to be ready in order to welcome tourists in the summer. We have agreed with the Minister of Interior and the District of Famagusta that we will be in consultation for whatever is being done "he said and noted that" everyone remains in their positions regarding the issue of whether the Municipality has jurisdiction or not "to carry out various projects.

Asked whether the works are considered illegal because the competent Departments had not been informed, Mr. Pyrillis said that "this is our difference with the Ministry of Interior. This is the opinion, this is our difference with the Ministry of Interior, that the Municipality has the right to execute some projects in accordance with the Law on Municipalities with decisions of the Municipal Council ".
