A fire is in progress in Paralimni while a second fire in a rural area in Liopetri burned olive trees, acacias and dry grass.
As the spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, stated to KYPE, "around 09.45, a fire broke out in a rural area in Liopetri. "Two fire trucks from Xylofagou and one from the Famagusta Fire Station responded and olive trees, acacias and dry grass were burned".
Meanwhile, shortly before 10.30 in the morning, "a call was received at the Famagusta Fire Station for a fire near a residential area. "Three vehicles from the Famagusta Fire Station responded, while the helicopter of the Aviation Operations Unit of the Police, which was in the area for training and was ready to drop water".
The fire in Paralimni is in progress and efforts are being made by firefighters to extinguish it, as strong winds are blowing in the area.
