A temporary decree suspending offers for water sports on the beaches of the Municipality of Paralimni was issued by the Administrative Court, which suspends the offers for facilities and water sports services that were announced on December 31st by the Municipality of Paralimni.
In statements to Famagusta.News the member of the Pancyprian Association of Water Sports - Recreation and Pleasure Boats, Mr. Kyriakos Alexandrou stated that "The Mayor proceeded to a tender which, as he stated, violates the regulations".
"According to the law, the announcement of the tender had to be frozen. As soon as there are objections and hierarchical appeal against the announcement of the competition, the competition should be frozen. "The mayor with irregularities and non-compliance continued the competition and is forcing us in difficult economic times that we are already struggling with the effects of coronavirus and non-tourism to run to court with extra costs to claim the obvious." mentions Mr. Alexandrou.
As he says "The mayor had to take care of his citizens and obey the law. "According to the law, he should freeze the competition himself and stop holding the vengeful and threatening attitude towards the professionals."
"Yesterday, said Mr. Alexandrou, the Administrative Court secured the freezing of the tender and now it is waiting for the legislation to be observed to the letter."
"No mayor and no opinions are above the law," he said. We also ask, said Mr. Alexandrou, for the support of the Municipal Council. The city council, he said, must stand up and support the rights it has and not let a mayor impose them on his own views and ideas. The municipal council is the mayor of the municipality and must stand by its citizens. That is why they are elected there, always within the framework of the legislation. It would be right, he adds, which decisions are taken to be guided first by the safety of bathers and our profession. Security that we have been perfectly ensuring for all professionals for an additional 40 years ".
As stated by Mr. Alexandrou, "We have never stated nor do we believe that the beaches of Protaras are our property, as the Mayor always states. On the contrary, he states, he has made them his own and he has proved it many times with his arbitrary and unfounded interventions in them and the destruction they brought to Fig Tree Bay, for which there are also complaints from the Auditor General. "
