The President of the Citizens' Alliance and candidate for President of the Republic, George Lillikas, visited Paralimni and Deryneia this morning as part of his tour in the province of Famagusta.

Beginning of his visit the Social Security Services. He then visited the Citizen Service Center in Deryneia and finally the Famagusta General Hospital, where he gave statements.

Accelerate the costing of services in public hospitals

Referring to the General Hospital, Mr. Lillikas found that once again, "while we are moving forward at GESY, there are still shortages of scientific staff, ie medical and nursing." These problems, he said, must be resolved before hospitals become autonomous so that public hospitals can meet the conditions of competition that will be created.

He went on to say that the state hospitals had endured in very difficult conditions, due to the financial crisis, due to the good will and hard work of doctors and nurses. He said that the state should offer protection to these people. Violence against doctors and nurses is on the rise. The government has pledged to increase security measures.

He noted that the responsibility of the state is not only the health of patients but also the health and safety of staff working in public hospitals.

He also asked for the acceleration of some procedures that need to be done if we want the GESY to be implemented. The costing of services in public hospitals is in the early stages.

The medical staff, as he said, cannot by itself cost the treatment in the state hospitals. This is the responsibility of economists and accountants, he said, and that is why the government must provide this assistance if it wants to close costing soon so that it can contract with the health insurance organization.

Cyprus: "Repetition of talks"

In his statements, Mr. Lillikas stated that: "If Mr. Anastasiadis is convinced that an international conference is required, which I am not sure about, this should be his request to the UN Secretary General and not a repetition of the talks from where they were interrupted. . The request must be the convening of an international conference with the participation of the five permanent members of the SA.

In the last few days, I have been watching Mr. Anastasiadis fall into contradictions regarding what should be done in the Cyprus issue. On the one hand, he states that he is ready to continue the talks from where they were interrupted, and on the other hand, he states that before a new Conference on the Cyprus issue is convened, there must be good preparation, while at the same time he states that he wants all five members of the Security Council to participate. a Conference on the Cyprus issue.

This cannot be a repetition of the Conference itself. In order for the five members of the SA to participate, which is necessary and is my firm position, which unfortunately Mr. Anastasiadis rejected in the National Council under various pretexts, the model of the Geneva Conference and Crans Montana should not be repeated but convened. Conference on a new basis. This must be an international conference. Consequently, Mr. Anastasiadis must clarify what he wants.

When it sends contradictory messages to the UN Secretary-General and to the international community, then it cannot expect positive developments in the right direction. It is crucial, if he is convinced that an international conference is needed, which I am not sure about, that this be his request to the UN Secretary General and not a resumption of the talks from where they left off. The request must be the convening of an international conference with the participation of the five permanent members of the SA. "
