The President of the Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation Movement, George Perdikis, accompanied by members of the Movement, visited the Famagusta General Hospital today.

Regarding his visit to the Famagusta Hospital, the head of the Movement's delegation, George Perdikis said that "in view of the autonomy of the public hospitals, we have started a series of visits to all public hospitals, we hear the problems of the staff, doctors, patients, the shortcomings that exist. "Our basic political position is that before autonomy, public hospitals must be fully equipped, to address all the gaps in staff and infrastructure in order to be able to compete fairly with the private sector in a more autonomous environment."

He added that "at the General Hospital of Famagusta there are prospects for the right investment to create departments that are financially viable and to support the overall viability of the Hospital. "From what we have been informed, there are plans, but there must be a political decision to make the right financial investment to create an Oncology Department and a Rehabilitation Department, which are two Departments that can contribute significantly to the financial viability of an autonomous hospital."

Referring to other problems faced by the public hospital, Mr. Perdikis said that they concern "some specialties in the staff such as Nephrologists, Gynecologists, problems are observed in the waiting lists where there is a sustainable approach while there is also a problem in the nursing staff in the First Aid Department. The Director and the staff of the Hospital are making great efforts and there is a great deal of competition among the staff to deal with the problems ".
