Larnaca DIKO MP Christos Orfanidis returns regarding the complaints he has expressed many times in the past about the relocation of the Famagusta Land Registry from Larnaca to Paralimni and the selection of this building.

This announcement:

Much has been said from the beginning until today about the relocation of the Provincial Cadastral and Urban Planning Offices from Larnaca to Paralimni. The irregularities are many and unjustified. Officials close their eyes and ears, thus allowing a purely wrong and illegal process to take place.

From the beginning, the choice of the building intended for the relocation was improper as it did not meet the criteria requested in the offer. On the other hand, the sums of money that have been spent and continue to be spent on this building so that it is somewhat closer to the required standards, are too large and for this the State and consequently the ordinary taxpayer are charged. In the meantime, mistakes, omissions and concealments give and take.

A special bid evaluation committee was set up for the whole process, namely the Central Government Housing Agency, which was established in April 2014 in order to examine and approve various issues, completely covering up irregularities and illegal procedures that were out of the bidding process. . This committee is responsible for all wrong decisions made. Surprisingly, this committee has now been dissolved, since the Central Government Housing Authority closed in January 2018. It is reminiscent of the dictatorial regime in North Korea.

Discussions, findings, and even remarks of the Auditor General of the Republic, had to ring the bell to those responsible. Nevertheless, our Government and specifically the Minister of Finance recently gave approval to give the project another € 151,300 for work which should have been fully undertaken by the owner of the building and not by the State. It is noted that the funds released by the Government must be approved by the House of Representatives.

The funds for the specific building for the year 2018 have been frozen during the approval of the State Budget 2018. The said amount of € 151,300 went under special procedures provided to the Council of Ministers without being approved by Parliament. It is reminded that more than € 600,000 have already been given by the State for this project, for the benefit of the owner.

At the same time, as stated by the Auditor General of the Republic, he is preparing a report which he will send to the Attorney General for further investigation of his complaints.
Public money is clearly being squandered by the Government and no one is taking responsibility. Instead the illegal situation continues with the blessings of the above.
