A 35-year-old man was brought before a court for a direct trial of a driving case under the influence of alcohol, who was found last night by members of the Police to drive a car on a street in the province of Famagusta, with five times the amount of alcohol in his body.
The 35-year-old was driving his car on Agias Theklis Street, in Sotira, shortly after 10.00 on Monday night and was stopped for control by members of the Famagusta Traffic Police. He underwent a driving test under the influence of alcohol, with an indication of 109μg% ml instead of the 22μg% ml which is the limit allowed by the Law, with the result that the members of the Police proceeded to arrest him.
On Tuesday morning, the Famagusta Traffic Police proceeded to the immediate registration of the case in the District Court of Famagusta, for immediate trial, while the 35-year-old also appeared before the Court.
The court set the next hearing for December 10 and ordered the 35-year-old to sign a personal bail of 2,000 euros and be released to reappear before the court on December 10 for a trial.
At the same time, following a relevant request of the Police, the Court issued a temporary decree for deprivation of the driving license and prohibition to drive a motor vehicle against the 35-year-old, until the trial of the case.
The Famagusta Traffic Police continues the examinations.
