The Association of Architects of Cyprus expresses its strong displeasure regarding the illegal construction of the Holy Monastery in Cape Greco and demands the immediate demolition of the building.

In its announcement, the Association states that "we are once again facing the degradation of the protected areas of the Natura 2000 network, the Special Conservation Zone (SZP) and the Special Protection Zone (ZEP) of Cape Greco, with the protagonist this time, the Church itself, which should be a model in the observance of principles and laws, with sensitivity to respect for nature and the environment".

On the contrary, he notes, the Holy Metropolis of Constantia and Famagusta is the protagonist in the "illegal" construction of a building, without securing all the required permits, insisting on the legalization of "arbitrary interventions and illegal constructions", within the environmentally protected zone.

The Association of Architects of Cyprus unfortunately observes that the phenomena of building arbitrariness are increasing at an uncontrollable rate, resulting in serious effects on the environment, the safety of citizens, but also on the architecture itself.

The Association of Architects of Cyprus calls on the state and all relevant authorities involved to take strict measures to control and combat this sad and recurring crime.
