Three arrests after the arrival of a boat with immigrants in the province of Famagusta

On Monday, the Police proceeded to the arrest of three persons, in order to facilitate investigations, regarding an investigated case of assisting the illegal entry of third country nationals into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The arrest of the three took place after the arrival, on the coast of Cyprus, of a boat in which a total of 50 illegal immigrants were on board.

Specifically, in the early hours of Monday, an unknown boat was detected by the Police radars sailing in the sea area northeast of Paralimni. At around 4.20am, the boat was intercepted by a Coast and Marine Police vessel three miles from shore. It was found that 50 people were on board the boat, of which 32 were men, five were women and 13 were minors.

The boat, accompanied by the Akato police officer, sailed to the fishing shelter of Paralimni, where the passengers were received by the authorities of the Republic.

From the examinations that followed, according to testimony secured, the boat's navigators were two 21-year-olds and a 25-year-old. Judicial arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and detained to facilitate investigations.
