A 32-year-old man is being treated at the Athalassa hospital, who yesterday afternoon stole a taxi from a hotel in Paphos, and during his pursuit by the Police on the Paphos - Limassol highway, caused damage to at least 18 cars, until he was stopped near Agios Tychos.

According to the Police, the 32-year-old had asked a taxi driver to take him from Paphos to Nicosia, but he refused. When the taxi driver got out of the vehicle to carry the tourist luggage he was serving, the 32-year-old took the opportunity and stepped into the driver's seat and stole the taxi.

He was chased on the Paphos-Limassol highway by police patrols who were informed about the incident, with the 32-year-old trying to escape by hitting the taxi in his path, fortunately without seriously injuring anyone.

At the height of Agios Tychonas, the 32-year-old lost control of the vehicle, with the result that it ended up in a ditch and he was arrested.

He was taken to the Traffic Police where he was tested for breathalyzer with zero indication, while he was examined by a psychiatrist who gave orders to be transported to the Athalassa Hospital for treatment.
