Notable and curious of the 2012 Oscars

Double nominated for Best Music for "War Horse" and "The Adventures of TenTen", John Williams has 47 nominations to date. Only Walt Disney surpasses him in the history of the Oscars. Woody Allen is following in 23 nominations, two of them this year. 

Meryl Streep is the actress with the most nominations, 17 in total.

In the Best Actress categories, nine actors are nominated for the first time and two (George Clooney and Meryl Streep) have already been honored. Only one actress, Michelle Williams, was already nominated last year for her role in the movie "Blue Valentine".

Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg managed to be the most nominated producers this year, a total of seven.

Woody Allen surpassed Billy Wilder in the category of artists nominated for script and direction in the same film, with seven nominations.

For the second time in his career, George Clooney is nominated in the same year in two different categories for two different films: nominated for Best Actor ("The Descendants") and for Best Screenplay ("March Species").

Clooney was nominated in 2005 for the Best Supporting Actor award ("Syriana") and for an original screenplay ("Good Night and Good Luck"). 84

The Iranian film "A Separation" is the first screenplay in Persian to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay.
