The Municipality of Famagusta, honored on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, the Excellent Athletes of Famagusta for their performance for 2016, as well as Sports Clubs of the city of Famagusta.
The "Little Salamis" of Filippos Giapanis, in Fasoula, this wonderful place that smelled of Famagusta, was the ideal place to be honored with a special award for their successes and their great contribution not only to the sports of Famagusta and our Cyprus, but also beyond our small borders, old athletes.
The non-active football players Artemis Theocharous and Kostakis Nouros were honored in this way, the volleyball players Petros Patsias and Costas Georgiou, the volleyball players Stella Ioannou and Fani Anastasiou Moulari Pervolaraki as well as the brothers Illagla Tzatzlara Famagusta High School of the period 1971-72 with Dimitris Hatzidimitriou, Angelos Angelidis, Panikos Theocharous, Sergi Sergiou, George Vassilios, Glafkos Economidis and Savva Hatzimichael, with coach Mr. Nikos Nikos. Acting athletes Leontia Kallenou in Track and Field were honored, and Menelaos Efstathiou and Lefteris Neos in Tennis.
A special posthumous tribute was paid to Konstantinos Ilias, a young athlete and coach of the Famagusta Tennis Club who recently lost his life in an accident. Finally, the Prometheus Famagusta Apartment Building Association was honored for its entire contribution to the sports of Cyprus.
The President of the Youth Committee of the Municipality of Famagusta, Mr. Andreas Kazamias, welcomed the honorees, thanking them for the honorary distinctions they gave to our place. The Mayor of Famagusta, Mr. Alexis Galanos, addressed a greeting, emphasizing that in these difficult times of refuge, Famagusta needs its citizens of tomorrow to have the characteristics of athletes as models.
The event was attended by the President of KOE Mr. Dinos Michailidis and on behalf of KOA Mr. Stelios Stylianou, who addressed a greeting.
The event was also attended by MPs from Famagusta, Municipal Councilors of the Municipality of Famagusta, Presidents and members of Federations, Presidents of Associations and Organizations, etc.
