More than half a million more tourist arrivals in Cyprus were recorded in 2016 compared to 2015, breaking records and making the previous year the most successful in history.
Specifically, with the addition of the data concerning last December, the arrivals were as follows:
In 2016, tourist arrivals reached 3 million 186 thousand 531.
The increase compared to 2015 amounted to 527 thousand 126 arrivals or 19,8%.
The increase compared to the previous best tourist year, which was the distant 2001, exceeded 18%.
The continuous rise of the tourist flow is confirmed by the fact that last December was the 18th in a row, consecutive month in which an increase in arrivals was recorded.
The performance recorded is important.
- The increase, compared to 2015, was in double digits in all months of 2016.
- July is the best month of all time with 482 thousand arrivals.
- Arrivals exceeded 400 thousand in the months: June, July, August and September 2016.
- The "summer season" April - October is the best of all time with arrivals over 2,7 cm.
- In the winter season there were 463,7 thousand arrivals, recording an increase of 23,2% compared to 2015.
- Arrivals during the winter months were the fourth best performance in history.
The tourist markets moved as follows:

We see in simple words the recovery or rather the spectacular return of the Russian market after the troubled 2015, which in combination with the growth of the British market gave a big boost to tourism.
Of course, no one can ignore the large increase in tourism from neighboring countries, Greece and Israel.
Apart from the British market, the arrivals from the other countries mentioned above are the most of all time.
