The 21-year-old motorcyclist from Sotira, who was injured at 12:15 last Saturday night in Ayia Napa, was dismounted. The young man's motorcycle was nailed to a four-wheeler driven by a young Englishwoman, in his attempt to overtake a car. The 21-year-old was not wearing a helmet, as a result of which he was seriously injured and was transported by intubation from Famagusta Hospital to Larnaca Hospital.

Yesterday, the long and persistent efforts of the treating doctors brought the desired results and the improvement of his health led to his intubation. It seems that in the end he will overcome the danger. Of course, the doctors are not complacent, since the health condition of the 21-year-old is characterized as serious. It is worth noting that according to the police officers who investigated the accident, the young man would not have suffered anything if he had worn his helmet. It is emphasized that the young Englishwoman was not wearing a helmet, as a result of which she was injured, but fortunately casually.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the increased use of motorcycles and mopeds during the summer months, as well as the recent deadly and serious road collisions with motorcyclists victims, the Traffic Department of the Police Headquarters and the Provincial Traffic Departments and for the consolidation of the road consciousness, they carried out between the dates of 5 and 18 August 2013, a fortnightly Cypriot campaign to control drivers and passengers of motorcycles and mopeds.

During the campaign, 434 motorcyclists were reported for 817 offenses as follows: 307 for not wearing a helmet, 112 for riding mopeds / motorcycles without a safety certificate, 89 for riding without a driver's license, 48 mopeds / motorcycles other traffic offenses. At the same time, 261 mopeds and motorcycles were detained during the inspections.
