Tourism: Revenues exceeded € 2,22 billion in the first ten months of 2016

The best performance of the last years was recorded by the tourist revenues in October, continuing the very positive trend of the previous months.

According to the results of the Travelers' Survey, published by the Statistical Service, revenues from tourism in October 2016 amounted to € 266 million compared to € 225 million in October 2015, an increase of 18,2%.

At the same time, revenues were increased for the period January - October 2016, amounting to € 2.228,7 million compared to € 1.977,6 million in the corresponding period of 2015, recording an increase of 12,7%.

It is noted that compared to the corresponding period of 2014, revenues from tourism increased by 22,5%, reaching € 1.914,7 million, while compared to the first ten months of 2013 there was an increase of 7,9 %.

It is reminded that the tourist arrivals for the period January - October 2016 recorded a record, reaching 2,974,412 compared to 2,472,959 in the corresponding period of 2015, recording an increase of 20,27%.

They spent less

Although tourism revenues increased significantly in October, both per capita and daily tourist expenditure were reduced. Specifically, per capita expenditure decreased by € 90,45 or 10,84% ​​to € 744,73 compared to € 835,18 in October 2015. Respectively, the amount spent daily by tourists was reduced, which decreased by € 4,8 or 5,6% to € 80,95 compared to € 85,75 in October 2015.

The highest per capita expenditure in October 2016 came from Belgian tourists, reaching € 1,076,12 compared to € 988,12 in October 2015. Austrian tourists spent around € 900,90, compared to € 976,24 last year. October, with the Swiss and Germans following with € 891,63 and € 873,47 respectively.

The most important blood donors of Cypriot tourism, the British, spent € 825,59 against € 956,77 in October 2015. For their part, Russian tourists spent € 731,99 in October this year compared to € 808,42 in October 2015. It is worth noting that the lowest per capita tourist expenditure (€ 354,22) came from Greek visitors.

The highest daily expenditure came from Israel in October 2016, reaching € 124,57, compared to € 121,50 in October 2015. The daily expenditure by the Austrians remained at about the same level, amounting to € 112,61 , 113,12 compared to € 2015 in October 47,87. Moreover, the lowest daily expenditure came from Greece again, reaching € 49,90 compared to € 2015 in October XNUMX.

The average length of stay of tourists decreased marginally in October this year to 9,2 days compared to 9,7 days in the corresponding month last year.
