The catalyst was the intervention of the members of the Air Operations Unit of the Police in the rescue of a 27-year-old tourist, who had been excluded, due to the weather conditions in the sea area of ​​Ayia Napa. Last Friday, May 19, 2017, around 5.40 pm, a message was received to the Police that a 27-year-old tourist was trapped, due to strong winds and sea turbulence, on rocks in the sea, in the sea area "Sea Caves" in Ayia Napa.   The area was immediately rushed by the Port and Maritime Police and members of the Ayia Napa Police Station, however, due to the sea turbulence, the approach to rescue him was not possible, neither by land nor by sea. The Search and Rescue Coordination Center was immediately informed, which undertook the coordination of the rescue operation. He sent the police helicopter to the area, as well as a team of EMAK and around 7.25 pm, MAEP rescuers, who were riding in the helicopter, managed to pull out the 27-year-old. A few minutes later, he was taken to Famagusta General Hospital for treatment. It has been found to have abrasions and bruises on the chest, lower extremities and abdomen. His health condition, according to doctors, is out of danger.
