FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed in July speaking on African soil that his proposal for the 2026 World Cup would be a 40-team event.
8 more countries in the finals (from 32 today), with Africa winning two places (7 instead of 5), but now Infantino made a new proposal, putting another 8! World Cup with 48 teams that is.
"There are ideas and we are trying to find the best solution, we will discuss them all this month and in 2017 we will decide", stressed the new president of FIFA.
"The idea with the 48 teams does not change much the current form of the World Cup. Again, the same groups will be made up of 32. There, 16 teams will go straight, just the other 16 will qualify through a draw ".
Of course, all this seems quite difficult to do. That is, 48 teams with 16 playing a match and returning home! Having lost their vacations and having their country spent a lot of money.
"This means that we will normally have a 32-team World Cup, but 48 countries will go to the party," said Infantino, who obviously just wants to make more money.
