It was with great pleasure that I responded to the invitation to put under my auspices this beautiful event of the Municipality of Sotira. The 8th Pancyprian Choir Festival of Traditional Song that is organized tonight, reflects the success of the institution and confirms, at the same time, the authenticity and value of the cultivation of our cultural culture in the Municipalities and Communities of the region.
Every second year of this Festival, we see the progress made with the participation of choirs from all over Cyprus, with the common goal of continuing and disseminating our rich musical heritage, as well as the revival of our traditional song.
I warmly congratulate the Municipality of Sotiras and the Sotiras Choir for the organization of the Festival, as well as the Children's Choir of the Municipality together with the Choirs of Evagoras Famagusta, Pera Chorio Island, Municipality of Idali and Municipality of Lakatameia for their participation.
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight two separate events regarding the organization of this Festival.
The first is the great support of the expatriates of Sotira, who are permanent supporters and supporters of every effort of the Municipality, which highlights the culture, history and traditions of their place. As Commissioner for the Presidency and for the issue of expatriates, I emphasize the fact that from all the contacts I have, that our expatriates as a whole, always have a genuine and uninterrupted love for their homeland, always remaining a valuable and dynamic part of our national ensemble. .
The other special event is the close cooperation of the Municipality of Sotiras with the Rizokarpasos High School. A group of volunteers of the School (with the director Mr. Fotis Sergiou) provides support to all events of the Municipality, within the framework of the goal of the Ministry of Education and Culture to connect the School with the Community.
I am particularly moved, as I am sure by you, by this connection, this life relationship with the teachers and students of Rizokarpasos High School. I have met them several times and I know first hand their virtues and gifts. In each of their visits to the free areas, they carry with them the fragrance of the Cyclamen of Karpasia together with the message that they continue to flourish for all of us. The students of Rizokarpasos, with the values and ideals that their teachers pass on to them, are children who honor us with their love and devotion to the land of their fathers, the roots and the history of us all.
Offering our culture and its cooperation with the Municipality of Sotiras, Rizokarpasou High School continues a tradition that gives us great endurance and strong support to cope with the struggle of our national survival.
We certainly cannot let what connects us to our history and our roots be destroyed. On the contrary, we have an obligation to constantly support them with events like tonight of the Municipality of Sotira. For this and I especially congratulate the President and the members of the Municipal Council Sotiras and all the other actors of the Community who strive for the success of the Festival and every other event that promotes our culture, traditions and customs and traditions.
