In the best movie category (from many betting sites, through Oddschecker.com) bookmakers give The Artist a 1/9 odds. They are followed by Descendants with 28-1, Maids and Hugo with 25-1, The Horse of War with 50-1.
Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, Tree of Life and Extremely Strong and Incredibly Close all give a 100-1 odds.
Similarly, if one puts his money in Michel Hazanavicius, he will probably not make much profit (since the director appears as a favorite with a 1/6 odds - on Bodog.com), but if he wins the underdog Terence Malik, then the victory - and profits- will be sweet.
This is because T. Malik gives an odds of 66-1 (according to Ladbrokes).
Greater interest accompanies the category of the First Male Role. According to the website vegasinsider.com, Jean Desjardins gives odds of 5/7, while George Clooney gives 6/5. The others seem to have no luck.
The same website gives an odds of 5/8 for Viola Davis (the Maids) and 5/4 for Meryl Streep (5/4). The winnings will be bigger if -finally- Michelle Williams makes the surprise and wins (gives odds of 15/1).
