Eleni Artymata competed in the 5th qualifying round of the 200m. where the first 3 of each series and the 3 best for the afternoon semifinals would qualify. Unfortunately, our champion was injured around 30m. before the finish and while it seemed feasible even with time to advance to the semifinals.
Artymata, as always, started to cover the distance in the final straight and reached the 4th athlete who was in her left corridor and relatively close to the 3rd, the Frenchwoman who ran further to the left (and finished in 22 ”91).
The qualification based on years finally ended at 23 ″ 05 and came from the next 2 and last series. But about 25m. meters before the finish he was injured and just walked to the end of the race to finish 6th in 24 ″ 07.
The winner in the series was Ryemyen -Ukraine- with 22 ″ 63 and followed by Antonique Strachan -Bahames- with 22 ″ 66.
