The Municipality of Sotira, under the supervision of the musician Ifigenia Sardalos, aspires to stage the first musical in the province of Famagusta. The musical has the opportunity to participate professionals or amateurs in the field of music and dance, whose participation will go through open hearings by a jury that will be held on Saturday, March 29 at the Municipal Theater Sotira.
The ambitious musical event is curated by the musician Ifigenia Sardalou who spoke to SotiraNews about her plans and goals.
How did this idea for the first musical in our province start?
Basically the idea was not born spontaneously. I wanted to help those who have talent in singing and dancing in our province but do not have the opportunity to be shown. I believe that the province of Famagusta is the only province that lacks in this field, the emergence of new talents and music creation.
Do you see that there are enough talents in our province with your involvement with music?
Of course! There is a lot of talent and that was the biggest reason why this idea started to be implemented slowly.
Why did you choose this genre of music? For many, not only in our province, but throughout Cyprus, the musical is an almost unknown genre with which there is not much to do.
Maybe that was the reason I chose this genre. It's a challenge for me, on the one hand to upload something I really love, and on the other hand to present something that not many people know about, but it is nevertheless an amazing music and dance genre.
Have you ever been involved with a musical?
Basically I have read a lot about musicals and my master's degree is in theater. I have done seminars in musicals and my goal is to work with people who know the genre better to have a good result.
Why did you choose Sotira to conduct the auditions and upload the musical?
Because Sotira was the first to help me and support me professionally. The Savior also helps me a lot and supports my idea. Nevertheless, the musical will go up in the other Municipalities of our province.
What is the title of the musical?
The title of the musical is "Once Upon a Dream" and is based on a play by Disney in my own adaptation.
Is there enough interest?
Of course, the interest was greater than I expected and I hope we will have several entries. Nevertheless, there is a great deal of doubt as to whether the result will be professional because we organize it in the Municipality of Sotiras but also because we are not framed by professionals in our field. However, the fact that the musical will be prepared for a year and considering the fact that several professionals have already been interested in helping us voluntarily, this fills us with optimism for the excellent result that we will have to present in the show.
When will the musical go up?
The musical will be staged in the summer of 2015 at the Municipal Theater of Sotira but we have already started preparing from now on.
Who is Iphigenia Sardalou:
Ifigenia Christodoulou Sardalou comes from Limassol and now lives in Paralimni. He is 26 years old, a music graduate with degrees in Music Performance and Pedagogy from the European University of Cyprus with the participation in the first album of a new creator, Fish in a pan Chris Katsaris, in the song "Celebrate your Fame". Iphigenia also has a Master's degree in theater from the Open University of Nicosia. He teaches vocal art, stage presence and orthophony in various conservatories and music training in many kindergartens in the province of Famagusta.
