Thousands of Cypriots protested against the austerity measures

With the participation of seventeen trade unions and social organizations, a nationwide social mobilization took place on Saturday against the harsh austerity measures imposed by the Troika.

The protesters gathered around 10 in the morning outside the Ministry of Finance where they shouted slogans against the Memorandum and the Troika.

Representatives of the organizations that organized the protest addressed greetings and read a resolution that was forwarded a little later to the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis.

The protesters then went to the Presidential Palace.

The presence of the Police was discreet, with the Traffic Police making the necessary traffic regulations while the presence of the police force was intense inside the Presidential Palace, where a meeting of the Council of Chiefs under President Anastasiadis was taking place.

Organized groups from all walks of life, including the labor, rural, student and student movements, were represented at the protest.

In detail, the movements that participated in the mobilization were: PEO, DEOK, POVEK, POAS, POED, ETYK, EKYSY, PSEM, TEPAK Administrative Personnel Guild, EKA, Nea Agrotiki, POPO, Movement against Privatization, Consolidation POFEN and Movement against sales.
