According to the Police, around one o'clock in the morning, a brewery employee in Ayia Napa complained that a foreigner gave him a 50 euro banknote which, as he found out, was counterfeit.

Men from the Famagusta TAE went to the scene where they located the foreigner who was still in the brewery and found that he was a 31-year-old man from Syria, a permanent resident of Cyprus.

A search of the 31-year-old turned up two more banknotes in his possession, one of 50 and one of 100 euros, which at first sight seem to be counterfeit. With his written consent, the Police proceeded to search his car where 8 other banknotes were found, the authenticity of which is disputed. A nylon bag containing dry green cannabis plant material was also found.

The 31-year-old was arrested for the spontaneous offense of illegal possession of a controlled drug and was taken into custody.

The brewery employee in the final count of the money found another banknote of 50 euros, which seems to be counterfeit and the investigation in the closed circuit found that the 31-year-old gave it.

The 31-year-old is expected to be brought before the District Court of Famagusta today for the issuance of a detention order.
