The new vehicle registrations showed an increase for the third consecutive year in 2016, according to the data announced on Monday by the Statistical Service.

Specifically, the total number of newly registered vehicles, marked a significant increase of 2016% in 31,4 and reached 33.805, compared to 25.735 in 2015. This is the third year recorded an increase in new vehicle registrations after an increase of 19% and 15,9 , 2014% recorded in the years 2015 and XNUMX, respectively.

Saloon passenger car registrations increased by 2016% in 30,3 to 27.956, compared to 21.462 in 2015. Of the total saloon passenger cars, 12.468 or 44,6% were new and 15.488 or 55,4% were used cars.

According to the Statistical Office, the Member States of the European Union were the main suppliers of vehicles in Cyprus in 2016. The EU share in total registrations amounted to 56,4%, while Japan to 30,3%.

In addition, bus registrations increased to 133, from 82 in the corresponding period of 2015, while registrations of commercial and truck cars reached 3.072 in 2016, compared to 2.156 in 2015, an increase of 42,5%.

Light trucks increased by 36,3% and reached 2.585 in 2016, from 1.896 in 2015.

Heavy trucks increased by 59,7% to 297 during the period January - December 2016, from 186 in the corresponding period of 2015.

Road tractors (trailers) increased by 156,8% to 190 in the period January - December 2016, from 74 in the period January - December 2015.

Registrations of mopeds <50ke increased by 24,7% and reached 192 in the period January - December 2016, compared to 154 in the corresponding period of 2015.

Motorcycle registrations> 50ke increased by 37,7% and reached 2.303 in 2016, compared to 1.673 in 2015.
