A new tough hike for the licenses of traffic licenses - not only for what will be registered from now on but also for the existing ones - is decided today by the Council of Ministers.

The increases - literally fire - are set today in the otherwise cool Troodos, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers. According to secure information, from 2014 on the licenses of traffic licenses will be imposed a hike of € 10, € 20 or € 30 depending on their displacement category, above the existing traffic tax.

The registration fees for cars that will be registered after the new fees are voted will be much higher.

A first comparison shows that the new traffic fees in Cyprus will be much higher even than those in Greece.

Specifically, from now on there will be only four categories of vehicles, both for excise purposes and for road tax.

These will concern cars that will be registered after the passing of the laws. Excise duties will be slightly higher than the existing ones.

At the road tax the first category, which concerns vehicles with pollutants up to 120 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, will be € 0,5 per gram.

Vehicles from 121-150 grams of CO2, ie the middle class, will pay a road tax of € 3 per gram.

Vehicles with emissions of 151-180 grams of CO2 will pay € 5 per gram and vehicles with emissions above 180 grams will pay an annual registration fee of € 8.

That is, a vehicle with 200 grams of CO2 pollutants will have a registration fee of € 1.600!

Also, buses (from € 200 to € 500) will now pay a traffic tax, while trucks with older engines will pay a special extra charge. Those who are late in renewing the marketing authorization, if one month has passed from the expiration of the previous one, will be fined € 50.

The registration fee will remain € 150 regardless of the type, displacement or pollutants of the vehicle.

New, increased excise duties and heavy road taxes are included in the Memorandum bills agreed with the Troika.
