Heavy hail prevailed in the morning in Sotira but also in the whole province of Famagusta. Visibility from the morning was limited and the roads had become extremely slippery and dangerous.
Due to the hail, which lasted more than an hour and a half, there were four traffic accidents with damage only, while damage was observed to livestock farms in greenhouses and potato plantations. Due to the strong winds, roads were cut off due to the fall of trees, while crews of the Famagusta Fire Department were called to pump water from flooded premises.
At the same time, from 10 in the morning until 12:20, there was a power outage in Sotira, Paralimni, Deryneia and Ayia Napa due to the weather conditions.
Therefore, the Police urges the public to avoid unnecessary trafficking. Drivers are urged to be especially careful, to drive at low speeds, to keep a safe distance from oncoming vehicles and to have their headlights on.
