The institution of the Neighborhood Observer in the Municipality of Sotira officially started operating yesterday, Monday 25 November. The institution, which already operates in other municipalities of Cyprus, aims to raise awareness and mobilize citizens on the issue of prevention and suppression of criminal activities. More than 200 people have already registered in our Municipality, while anyone who is interested can register and thus strengthen the institution. Through the Neighborhood Observer, the citizens of Sotira become more observant and thus assist the work of the Police, after recording and informing any suspicious activity, resulting in better protection of their property.
A relevant event took place last Thursday, November 21 at the Municipal Hall of Sotiras, in the presence of the Neighborhood Observers as well as the Assistant Police Director of Famagusta, Policeman Solomos Solomos, and the Chief of Deryneia, Sergeant Lochias Michas.
At the event, the Observers of Sotira were informed about the institution by the Crime Prevention Officer of the Police Headquarters, Senior Lieutenant, Petros Pattouras, by the Chief Coordinator of the Neighborhood Observer of the Municipality of Idali, Mr. Stavros Neofikos Of Cyprus Youth, Ms. Soula Pappouti.
The Neighborhood Observer program is carried out with the support and Coordination of Sotiras Community Policing Officer, Mr. Giannis Asprou, while members are regularly informed via SMS about various issues and events of which they should be aware.
