A Scientific Conference of general interest for the Savior is being prepared by the Culture Committee of the Municipality of Sotira, which is expected to be held from 24 to 27 September 2014.
According to an ad in the press which is published today and will be republished tomorrow in the newspapers, the Municipality of Sotira announces the expression of interest by scientists-speakers, who will offer their knowledge focused on Sotira, at the Conference entitled: "Savior: Environment, History and Culture".
The intention of the Municipality, according to statements by Mayor Sotiras, Mr. Georgios Takkas is to organize a conference of scientific prestige and interest, something that has not been done before and in it various scientists from all fields to offer their knowledge in various thematic units with subject to the Savior. The minutes of the conference, according to the Mayor, will be printed in a book, which can be obtained by anyone interested, and the hope is, as he mentioned, to be an occasion and opportunity for the writing of more books that refer to the Savior.
According to the Mayor, the writing of a book with the genealogical tree of the Savior is already at an advanced stage, which is very pleasant. Nevertheless, he said, it is a great achievement and a very hard work, to gather the names of the inhabitants of Sotira in a book, which so far goes to study the generations of Sotira, until the 18th century!
The Organizing Committee of the conference is led by the Byzantine Scholar and Head of the Archive of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation (originally from Sotira) Dr. Christodoulos Hadjichristodoulou, while according to information there is already intense interest from scientists and professors from the field of History, Archeology and Architecture to participate in the conference as speakers.
