Cyprus, a place with a history and tradition of thousands of years, has managed to keep alive its history, tradition and language. This language itself has survived for centuries.
The Cypriot dialect is still experienced by word of mouth in a very special and unique way. This language was preserved through Cypriot traditional music. Our folk songs carry this tradition and are heard at events in Cyprus and in the expatriate Cypriot Hellenism.
An important figure in Cypriot traditional song is Vasiliki Hatziadamou, a young Cypriot singer who has given and continues to make her mark in Cyprus and abroad. In addition to its contribution to Cypriot song, it has given a decent presence to Cypriot television and radio with quality broadcasts through which tradition manages to be alive in Cypriot society with great success and great audience.
Very soon Vasiliki Hatziadamou is going to present us a new and important album entitled "Archangelos", with new art songs in Cypriot lyrics written by the Cypriot lyricist of America Polys Kyriakou, a man of the Diaspora who served Culture, with important offer and action in Greece and America. His lyrics and poems have been set to music by prominent Greek composers such as Giannis Markopoulos, Pantelis Thalassinos, George Andreou, Stavros Siolas and others. His songs such as "Kyrenia" and "Diodia" have already been loved all over the world and have been performed by George Dalaras, Pantelis Thalassinos, Giannis Kotsiras, Christos Thivaios, Eleftheria Arvanitakis and others, Kostas Makedonas and others. Miltos Paschalidis participates in the new album.
The composer and orchestrator of this new record is Andreas Katsigiannis, an important Greek composer, founder of the traditional orchestra "Estudiantina" of Nea Ionia. He has written music, theater and cinema. Close collaborator with George Dalaras. He also collaborated with Giannis. Markopoulos, with Stavros. Xarchako, with Stavros Kougioumetzis, with Haris Alexiou, Maria Farantouri, Babis Tsertos, Dimitris Bassis and others.
The album includes songs of love, homeland, exile, mother. Lyrics born through the deepest feelings of the lyricist Poly Kyriakou in melodies and music composed by Andreas Katsigiannis so that this cycle of songs becomes a station in the Cypriot art song.
The orchestrations of this new work will include traditional instruments performed by important musicians and instrumentalists.
