Police are trying to dismantle a network of fraudulent fuel consumers, after locating "disturbed" meters and pumps at three gas stations in Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos. 'Three people have already been arrested…

The mastermind of the case remains unaccounted for and his name has already been registered in the stop list to prevent him from leaving Cyprus.

The combine was revealed after a company complained to the Police that it suspected that gas stations had been converted, so that their meters showed that the amount of fuel paid by consumers was more than what they put in the tanks of their cars. In that way

customers paid more while gas station owners spent less fuel.

Police are continuing investigations on a nationwide basis in order to determine whether similar conversions were made at other gas stations.

A meeting at the Ministry of Commerce is expected to decide on measures to prevent the recurrence of similar consumer fraud.

The Minister of Commerce, Neoklis Silikiotis, assured that the inspectors of the Ministry were on foot from the first moment. The phenomenon, he said, is limited and should not cause public concern.

There is no member among the suspects of the Pancyprian Association of Gas Station Owners, states the President of the Association, Stefanos Stefanou.
