The ease of access of minors to alcohol was demonstrated by a trial market research, recently conducted in the provinces of Limassol and Nicosia by the Cyprus Anti-Drug Association (ASK), in the framework of the "Responsibly Have -17- I Ask for Identity" Program. The research involved nine first-year students of the University of Cyprus from Limassol and Nicosia, and three postgraduate students as supervisors. As part of the research, 200 visits were made to various establishments - supermarkets, cafes, nightclubs, bars, mini markets and places for consumption / sale of beverages.

According to the data presented yesterday, during a press conference for the Third Alcohol Awareness Week, only one restaurant in Nicosia had a reaction (cafeteria), where the secret visitor was asked to show his identity, while in Limassol the reactions were ten. (seven with verbal confirmation of age, two with proof of identity and one with verbal confirmation of age at repeat visit).

The conclusions
Based on the above results, according to Michalis Michailidis, of the Department of Psychology of the University of Cyprus, the following conclusions emerge:
1. Test visits are a tried and tested way of studying the compliance of alcohol sellers with minors.
2. Consistency with minor reports of easy access to and consumption of alcohol
3. Only in a very small number (5,5%) of the 200 trial purchases did sellers seem to react to the sale of alcohol to buyers who appeared to be minors
4. The indicated reaction (display of identity) was recorded in only three cases (1,5%). In these cases the buyers were two men and a woman
