In his statements, after the press conference on the occasion of the information campaign of PASYKAF for Cervical Cancer, the representative of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Charalambos Charilaou, said that at the moment 11 cases have been recorded, of which 4 have been discharged and 7 are being treated.

As Mr. Charilaou said, "4 of the 7 cases that are still being treated are in private clinics, while the other 3 are being treated in public hospitals (Paphos General Hospital and Nicosia General Hospital)".

"The situation of all these incidents is evolving, it is good, it is not critical and there is no reason for concern. This year's seasonal flu outbreak has begun around mid-January. What we want to say as a Ministry is that these incidents are expected and will not disappear. There will be other such incidents in the course of winter, while all these incidents are related to other diseases. That is, people who have problems with their heart, respiratory problems, etc. All of these people are vulnerable to getting the H1N1 flu virus, ”he added.

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Charilaou said that "a person who is ill can die if his general condition allows it to happen", to add that if there are other comorbidities that worsen his general condition, yes death can occur ".

"But it does not mean," he said, "that a person who gets the flu and any flu virus, the result will be death."

Mr. Charilaou stressed again that the public must strictly observe the rules of hygiene, such as care for good ventilation of the places where we live, when we cough or sneeze to use a handkerchief in front of the face and then wash our hands, good and frequent washing our hands, as well as abstaining sick children from school.

Asked if one of the incidents that have been reported concerns a person who has been served by the occupied in a private clinic, Mr. Charilaou answered that "there is an incident, but that does not mean anything".

"We will have several incidents along the way. Now winter has begun and these incidents are to be expected. It is in the normal context in relation to the previous years ", he noted.
