The British website Travel Weekly ranked Makronisos Beach in Ayia Napa in third place among the ten best beaches in Greece and Cyprus.
A written statement from the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that "the British travel website Travel Weekly ranked Makronisos beach in third place among the 10 best beaches in Greece and Cyprus after Elafonissi beach in Crete and Koukounaries in Skiathos, which occupied the first and second place respectively ".
Next are the beaches of Livadia in Serifos, Kassandra in Halkidiki, Analipsi in the Peloponnese, Kokkini in Santorini, Cameo Island (off the coast of Laganas) in Zakynthos, Agios Ioannis in Meganisi and Latsi in Cyprus.
According to the announcement, "the columnist of the website Laura French states in her post that one does not need to travel 14 hours to go to distant exotic islands as one can find in much closer destinations such as Greece and Cyprus equally exotic and paradise beaches such as the ones mentioned above ".
Commenting on the distinction for Makronisos, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, stated that "this is a result of the very good and coordinated work done by the Beach Service of the Municipality, in terms of cleanliness and order that prevails not only in this beach but in all . It is also due to the fact that every year our beaches are awarded the Blue Flag and this in itself proves that both the coast and the sea water are crystal clear as well as the continuous promotion of our beaches by the competent services of the Municipality on Social Media ».
